The Republic of Macedonia is a unicameral parliamentary democracy with three branches of government: executive, legislative, and judicial. The President is elected by popular vote for five year terms and is eligible for a second term. The Prime Minister is elected by the assembly following legislative elections. The legislative branch consists of 120 seats; members are elected by popular vote from party lists based on the percentage of the overall vote the parties gain in each of six electoral districts; members serve four-year terms. The Supreme Court, a Constitutional Court, and a Republican Judicial Council compose the judicial branch.
